Ransomware is one of today’s top business concerns. So says IDC’s Phil Goodwin, Research Vice President within IDC’s Infrastructure Systems, Platforms and Technologies Group, in a recent IDC Opinion White Paper, sponsored by Arcserve. But, with 304.7 million ransomware attacks counted in the first six months of 2021, you already knew that. The paper notes that IDC's research shows that more than 90 percent of organizations surveyed acknowledged being attacked by malware.
Digital Resilience Investments Are a Priority
Increased data growth and IT complexity only compound the problems that ransomware presents. The IDC report says the average data growth rate expected for enterprises is 43 percent per year over the next two years, with much of that data in the cloud and at the edge. Add in more and more applications and new data types like NoSQL, and it’s no wonder that organizations are finding that traditional backup tools alone can’t address sophisticated, evolving threats. IDC recommends that IT leaders take a broad perspective and view resilience holistically. That includes investing in disaster recovery (DR) systems that can address the impacts of any event.
Critical Capabilities for Data Protection and Disaster Recovery
IDC identifies five essential capabilities that any effective data protection and DR solution should include:
- Encryption
- Immutable backup data dopy
- Air gapped data copy
- Seamless integration
- Multifactor authentication (MFA)
Combined Capabilities Equals a Fully Integrated Solution
Goodwin notes that, with the merger between Arcserve and StorageCraft, the combined company can now offer a fully integrated solution of data protection and management software, object storage platform, and appliance-based data cyberprotection. The white paper also includes an overview of Arcserve’s product line, and associated benefits, from Goodwin’s perspective, including:
- Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP)
- Arcserve Business Continuity Cloud
- Arcserve Cloud UDP secured by Sophos
- OneXafe Solo
- StorageCraft Cloud Backup
- OneXafe
- ShadowProtect
- StorageCraft Cloud Services
The white paper concludes that Arcserve can now address the needs of nearly all organizations, from SMBs to large-scale enterprises. The report is filled with valuable information and is well worth your time.
